The HOUGEN 12730 is a high speed steel annular cutter designed for fast, clean through-holes in ferrous and stainless steel plate, structural members, and fabricated assemblies. It cuts a 15/16 inch diameter hole to a maximum depth of 2 inches. The cutter body is manufactured from M2 high speed steel and carries a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that reduces friction, extends cutting edge life, and improves chip evacuation. The 3/4 inch Weldon flat shank with two flats locks securely into compatible magnetic drill presses and annular cutter holders. Fabricators, ironworkers, and maintenance welders are the primary installers of this tool.

The HOUGEN 12730 is suited for production drilling operations on mild steel, stainless steel, and general steel stock where twist drill methods are too slow or generate excessive heat. It is commonly used with portable magnetic drill presses on structural steel beams, column bases, and plate work, as well as in stationary drill press setups equipped with a Weldon-style chuck. The 2 inch depth of cut accommodates standard structural steel flanges and heavy plate stock in a single pass.

Installation Notes

Installation of annular cutters is performed by machinists, fabricators, and ironworkers using a compatible magnetic drill press or bench drill press with a Weldon arbor. Secure the shank fully into the holder and tighten the set screws against both Weldon flats before starting the cut. Use cutting oil or a coolant-lubricant formulated for metal cutting to maintain tool temperature and extend edge life. Inspect the cutting teeth for chipping or wear before each use and replace the cutter if edge damage is observed.
