The HORN S224040034AS66 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the S224 series, designed for external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the AS66 manufacturer grade and delivers a cutting width of 0.157 inches with a corner radius of 0.008 inches, making it suitable for precise groove geometry in tight-tolerance applications. The insert is held by screw clamping and features a 5-degree lead angle. It is a dual-hand insert compatible with both left-hand and right-hand toolholders, giving technicians flexibility across different machine setups and orientations.
This insert is intended for production turning environments where repeatable groove width and clean sidewall finish are required. It is rated for use on cast iron and non-ferrous workpiece materials as primary targets, with additional suitability for steel and stainless or high-temperature alloys as secondary workpiece materials. Typical applications include grooving, parting, and profile turning on small-diameter components. Machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians working with precision turned parts are the primary users of this insert.
Designed for use with HORN S224 series toolholders. Compatible with primary workpiece materials coded K (cast iron) and N (non-ferrous), with secondary compatibility for M (stainless and heat-resistant) and S (superalloys and titanium) material codes. Both left-hand and right-hand S224 series holders are supported.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine is powered down and the spindle is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid seat damage - refer to the HORN S224 toolholder documentation for torque specifications. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
