The HORN S1000500E3TF45 is a solid carbide grooving insert engineered for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC turning centers and grooving machines. It carries a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating in manufacturer grade TF45, delivering strong wear resistance and heat tolerance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The cutting width is 0.197 inches with a cutting height also of 0.197 inches and a corner radius of 0.012 inches. The positive rake geometry and E chip breaker designation promote efficient chip evacuation. Overall insert length is 0.594 inches. This insert is installed by machinists and tooling technicians working in production turning environments.
The S1000500E3TF45 belongs to the S100 series and is rated for universal application across multiple primary workpiece material categories including cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, steel, and superalloys, corresponding to material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It is suited for both light finishing and general-purpose grooving passes where consistent groove width and controlled chip flow are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to standard toolholder setups without requiring mirrored or handed holders. Insert seat size is 5, and the material grade is C7.
Designed for use with HORN S100 series toolholder bodies accepting insert seat size 5. Compatible with workpiece material categories K, M, N, P, and S as designated by the manufacturer. Verify toolholder seat size and clamping style before installation.
Grooving inserts should be installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with indexable insert tooling. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw - do not overtighten or use impact tools. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
