The HORN RU114143162TN35 is a solid carbide grooving insert engineered for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the U114 series, this right-hand insert features a 0.062 inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.098 inches, making it well suited for narrow groove profiles requiring tight dimensional control. The TiN (titanium nitride) coating improves surface hardness and wear resistance, extending tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The full-radius geometry with a 0.031 inch corner radius produces a smooth groove floor, while the positive rake angle reduces cutting forces and heat generation. Screw-clamping secures the insert firmly in compatible U114 toolholders.
This insert is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups K (cast iron), M (stainless steel), N (non-ferrous), P (steel), and S (high-temperature alloys). It is appropriate for both production and job-shop turning environments where repeatable groove geometry is required. The C5/C6 material grade designation makes it suitable for general-purpose turning and interrupted-cut grooving applications. Machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, automotive, and industrial component manufacturing will find this insert applicable across a broad range of turning setups.
Designed for use with HORN U114 series toolholders accepting the 1431 insert size. Compatible with applications requiring the TN35 grade carbide insert in U114 screw-clamp systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder; do not overtighten. Verify insert seating and tool overhang against the programmed depth of cut before resuming operation.
