The HORN R111186702 TN35 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Coated with titanium nitride (TiN), this insert delivers improved wear resistance and extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. It carries a positive rake geometry with an 8-degree rake angle and an 18-degree relief angle, reducing cutting forces and minimizing heat buildup at the cutting edge. The 0.20 mm corner radius produces a fine surface finish on bored features. Screw-clamped mounting ensures secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. Weighing approximately 0.1 pounds, the insert measures 10.70 mm in length, 8.00 mm in width, and 3.95 mm in thickness.
This insert is suited for boring, profiling, and undercut operations in both light and medium-duty applications. It is classified as a universal-grade insert, rated for workpiece material codes K, M, N, P, and S, covering cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys. The maximum depth of cut is 0.0910 inches. The right-hand cutting orientation and positive rake make it a practical choice for finish boring passes where dimensional accuracy and surface quality are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians typically specify this insert for tight-tolerance internal diameter work.
Designed for use in HORN R111 series boring toolholders that accept screw-clamped inserts of this geometry and size. Verify toolholder pocket dimensions against insert length of 10.70 mm, width of 8.00 mm, and thickness of 3.95 mm before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts can crack under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure full, flat contact.
