The HORN LS310402300AS45 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for precision material removal in professional machining applications. This single-sided, left-hand insert belongs to the LS310 series and carries the AS45 manufacturer grade. It features a positive rake geometry and a corner radius of 0.20 mm (0.0080 inches), making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations where edge sharpness and dimensional accuracy are critical. The insert is held in place by a screw-clamp method, providing secure seating during high-speed cutting passes. At 0.02 pounds, it is a compact, precision-ground component intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The LS310402300AS45 is rated for use on a wide range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steel, superalloys, titanium, and non-ferrous metals. The insert size code is 0402 and it is configured for left-hand cutting, so correct tool-body orientation must be confirmed before installation. This insert is appropriate for CNC milling centers and manual mills where the corresponding LS310 series tool body is in use. It is commonly specified for both roughing transitions and light finishing cuts depending on feed and speed parameters selected by the machinist.
Designed for use with LS310 series milling tool bodies that accept left-hand, single-sided carbide inserts with insert size code 0402. Confirm tool-body hand orientation and pocket geometry against the LS310 series specification before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with indexable insert tooling. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating any insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw; do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamp load. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure full, flat seating.
