The HONEYWELL mgi-6 is a standard barometric draft damper designed to regulate flue gas pressure in natural gas heating systems. The damper maintains consistent draft conditions by automatically responding to pressure changes in the flue, helping the appliance operate at its intended efficiency. Fitted with a collar for straightforward connection to the vent pipe, it installs in-line on the flue run between the appliance and the chimney. HVAC technicians and heating contractors install this component during new system setup or as a replacement on existing natural gas equipment with a 6-inch flue outlet.
This barometric draft damper is suited for residential and light commercial natural gas heating applications where stable draft control is required. The 6-inch collar size matches standard flue pipe sizing commonly found on gas furnaces, boilers, and water heaters vented through masonry or metal chimneys. It is intended for use on Category I naturally-drafted appliances that rely on a negative-pressure chimney draft rather than a powered inducer.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement barometric draft damper for naturally-drafted natural gas heating appliances with a 6-inch flue outlet.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC technician or heating contractor in accordance with the appliance manufacturer instructions and applicable local codes including the International Fuel Gas Code. Shut off the gas supply and allow the appliance to cool completely before disconnecting any flue components. The damper must be installed in the correct orientation with the counterweight positioned as specified to ensure proper pressure response. Do not install on power-vented, direct-vent, or Category III and IV appliances.
