The Honeywell Home Intrusion 5193SD is a photoelectric smoke detector designed for use with Vplex addressable fire and security systems. Photoelectric sensing technology detects slow-smoldering fires by responding to visible combustion particles, making it well suited for areas where early warning of developing fires is critical. The 5193SD communicates over the Vplex digital loop, allowing each device to be individually identified and supervised by the control panel. Licensed fire alarm technicians and security system installers are the primary trades responsible for deploying this detector in new construction and retrofit applications.
The 5193SD is intended for addressable system installations in both residential and light commercial environments. Its Vplex protocol integration means it operates on a two-wire loop, simplifying wiring runs and reducing installation labor compared to conventional four-wire detector circuits. Typical installations include single-family homes, multi-family buildings, and small commercial occupancies where an addressable panel is used to provide zone-level identification and system-level supervision of each smoke detector on the loop.
Designed for use with Vplex addressable fire and security control panels. Consult the control panel documentation and the 5193SD product data sheet to confirm loop loading and addressing requirements before installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed fire alarm or security systems technician in accordance with NFPA 72 and all applicable local codes. Power down and disarm the control panel loop before connecting or disconnecting any addressable device on the Vplex wiring. Follow the manufacturer data sheet for proper addressing, loop polarity, and end-of-line resistor placement. Do not install in environments outside the detector's rated temperature and humidity range as specified in the product data sheet.
