The HOFFMAN SPECIALTY 404224 is a float and thermostatic (FT) steam trap designed for large, high-capacity steam heating and process systems. Built around a rugged stainless steel thermostatic element, it continuously vents air and non-condensable gases without air binding, keeping systems running at peak thermal efficiency. The below-condensate-level seat design prevents live steam from leaking through the trap, protecting downstream equipment and reducing energy waste. Stainless steel internal components resist corrosion and withstand the stress of water hammer, extending service life in demanding applications. Licensed steam and pipefitters install this trap in commercial and industrial steam distribution systems.
This trap is suited for large-scale steam heating units and high-capacity process applications where reliable condensate discharge and air venting are critical. Its 1-1/4 inch connection size accommodates higher flow rates typical of commercial boiler systems and large air handling units. A key serviceability feature allows internal components to be accessed and replaced without dismantling the surrounding piping, reducing downtime during maintenance cycles.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-install float and thermostatic steam trap for large high-capacity steam heating and process units requiring a 1-1/4 inch trap connection.
Installation should be performed by a licensed pipefitter or steam systems technician in accordance with applicable mechanical codes. Isolate and depressurize the steam line and allow it to cool fully before removing any existing trap or fitting the new unit. Confirm inlet and outlet flow direction before threading the trap into the line, and verify that all connections are properly sealed to prevent steam loss. In-line serviceability allows internal component replacement without breaking the pipe connections, but the system must still be depressurized before any service work begins.
