The HERTEL MR34-0496.406 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed to finish-ream precision holes to tight tolerances in metal workpieces. With a 0.0496 inch diameter and a reamer diameter tolerance of 0.0000 to +0.0003 mm, this tool delivers the hole accuracy required in close-fit applications such as dowel pin bores, hydraulic valve bodies, and instrument components. The 4-flute, left-hand spiral geometry with right-hand cutting direction helps pull chips away from the cutting zone and reduces chatter at small diameters. A bright polished finish minimizes built-up edge. Licensed machinists and tool-room operators are the primary users of this reamer.
This reamer is suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes where a straight shank is compatible with the collet or chuck setup. The 0.7087 inch flute length handles typical through-hole and blind-hole depths at this diameter range. Its compact overall length of 1.9685 inches keeps tool overhang minimal, which is important at sub-0.050 inch diameters where deflection directly affects finished hole size. Applications include aerospace, medical device, and precision instrument manufacturing where sub-two-millimeter bore finishing is required.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in straight-shank collet chucks and drill chucks on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes requiring a 0.0496 inch finished bore diameter.
Chucking reamers should be installed by a qualified machinist following standard toolroom practices. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece are secure before engaging the reamer, and use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain surface finish. Never use a chucking reamer to remove more material than the recommended stock allowance for the diameter range, as overloading a solid carbide tool at this size can cause breakage. Refer to the machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting speeds and feeds.
