The HERTEL K027772AS is a straight flute tap designed for cutting M14x2.00 metric coarse internal threads in a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable performance in general-purpose threading applications. The taper chamfer style eases entry into the workpiece, making it well suited for through-hole threading operations. With four flutes and a 6H class of fit tolerance, it produces threads that meet standard metric fastener assembly requirements. Overall length is 3-19/32 inches, and the right-hand thread direction matches conventional fastener standards. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This tap is used in production machining, job shop, and maintenance environments where metric coarse threads are required. It is appropriate for drilling and tapping steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials in both manual and machine tapping setups. The taper chamfer design is particularly effective when starting a tap in a drilled hole from scratch, distributing cutting load gradually across the leading threads. The D7 thread limit designation indicates the tap is ground to produce threads on the higher end of the 6H tolerance band, helping to account for material springback in tougher workpieces.
Designed as an OEM-style straight flute tap for use in standard tap holders and tapping heads that accept straight-shank metric taps sized for M14 threading applications.
Tapping operations should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with proper feeds, speeds, and cutting fluid selection for the workpiece material. Ensure the drilled pilot hole diameter matches the M14x2.00 tap drill specification before beginning the threading operation. Always back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage, especially in blind-hole or deep-hole applications. Secure the workpiece firmly and align the tap perpendicular to the hole surface before applying cutting pressure.
