The HERTEL K027738AS25 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed for cutting M5x0.80 metric coarse internal threads in blind and through holes. Ground from high-speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN), it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS taps. The four-flute straight configuration provides stable cutting action and adequate chip clearance in a wide range of workpiece materials. At 2.375 inches overall length, the tap suits standard tapping chucks and holders used in both manual and machine tapping operations. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes where plug or taper taps cannot reach.
This tap is suited for general metalworking, tool-and-die, maintenance, and production applications requiring metric M5x0.80 threads. Typical materials include steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys. The 6H class of fit produces threads within standard tolerance for most metric fastener assemblies. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping fixtures. The D4 thread limit indicates a ground tap with a specific pitch diameter tolerance for reliable fit control.
Designed for use in standard tapping chucks and holders that accept the shank diameter of an M5 tap. Compatible with manual tapping arms, drill press tapping attachments, and CNC rigid tapping setups. Cuts M5x0.80 metric coarse threads per standard metric thread specifications.
A licensed machinist or toolroom technician should ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before tapping. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to reduce heat and improve thread quality. For blind holes, set depth stops carefully to prevent the tap from bottoming out against the hole floor under power. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace immediately if damage is observed.
