The HERTEL K020217AS25 is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting M8x1.25 metric coarse internal threads in a variety of workpiece materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride coating, this tap delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. It features 4 flutes with a plug chamfer, making it well-suited for through-hole threading applications where chips clear forward. With an overall length of 2-23/32 inches and a thread length of 1-1/8 inches, it fits standard tap holders and machine spindles used in production and maintenance environments. Installation is performed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades.
This tap is intended for metric coarse thread applications requiring M8x1.25 thread form. The plug chamfer style provides moderate lead-in and is the most common tap configuration for general-purpose through-hole tapping on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and tapping machines. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional fastener threads. The D3 thread limit designates a specific tolerance class appropriate for fitting standard metric fasteners within accepted tolerance ranges.
Designed as a standard replacement or production tap for M8x1.25 metric coarse through-hole threading operations using conventional tap holders, quick-change tap adapters, or rigid tapping chucks compatible with a 0.318-inch shank diameter.
Tap installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance trades familiar with thread-cutting operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the pre-drilled pilot hole before engagement. Always use a compatible cutting fluid or tapping lubricant to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Follow applicable shop safety protocols when operating drilling or tapping equipment.
