The HERTEL K020089AS is a straight flute tap designed for cutting M3x0.50 Metric Coarse internal threads. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap is suited for general-purpose tapping in a wide range of materials. The plug chamfer style provides a balance between tapping torque and thread lead-in, making it appropriate for through-hole and moderately deep blind-hole applications. With 3 flutes and a D1 thread limit, it holds tight tolerances for precise thread forming. The overall length is 1-15/16 inches, with a thread length of 5/8 inches and a shank diameter of 0.1410 inches. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals install this tap in manual or CNC tapping operations.
This tap is intended for metric coarse thread applications requiring an M3x0.50 thread profile. It is well suited to light-duty production work, repair tapping, and prototyping in metal fabrication, maintenance, and machine shop environments. The right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional tapping setups. Its compact size makes it useful in tight-access locations where larger taps cannot reach. This tool does not include coolant-through capability and is used with external cutting fluid or lubricant as required by the workpiece material.
Designed as a standard straight flute tap for use in manual tap handles, tap wrenches, or CNC tapping operations configured for M3x0.50 Metric Coarse right-hand threads.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before tapping, ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the correct pilot hole diameter for M3x0.50 Metric Coarse threads has been drilled. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping lubricant for the workpiece material to reduce tool wear and improve thread finish. Do not force the tap; back off periodically to break chips when tapping steel or other chip-prone materials.
