The HERTEL K014531AS is a 10-24 UNC plug hand tap ground from bright, uncoated high speed steel. It is designed for right-hand threading operations in through-holes and blind holes where a plug chamfer provides a balanced entry between starting ease and thread completion depth. The four-flute straight-flute geometry suits hand tapping in a range of workpiece materials commonly encountered in maintenance, fabrication, and assembly work. At 2.375 inches overall length, the tap fits standard tap handles used across machining and mechanical trades. The H11 thread limit designates an oversize allowance of 0.005 inches, which is specified to accommodate plating or coating buildup on finished threads.
This tap is applied wherever a 10-24 UNC internal thread is required and a final plated or coated finish on the workpiece demands a slightly oversized tap to hold the finished thread tolerance. Typical applications include machine assembly, sheet metal fabrication, equipment repair, and general maintenance threading tasks. It is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die trades working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The bright uncoated finish makes it well-suited for use with cutting oil or tapping fluid on a wide range of base metals.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for standard 10-24 UNC plug hand taps where an H11 oversize thread limit is specified.
Install using a calibrated tap handle sized for the tap shank; do not use power drivers unless the tap and setup are rated for machine use. Secure the workpiece before tapping and apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil throughout the operation to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Follow applicable shop safety practices for rotating tooling. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use and discard any tap showing signs of damage to avoid thread damage in the workpiece.
