The HERTEL K010463AS25 is a metric thread forming tap designed for bottoming applications in blind holes. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN) for improved wear resistance and longer tool life. It carries a D11 thread limit and a right-hand thread direction. With an overall length of 3.375 inches and a thread length of 1.656 inches, it is suited for production and maintenance threading operations performed by machinists and tool-and-die technicians.
This tap is used for forming M12x1.75 metric threads in blind holes where a bottoming chamfer is required to thread close to the bottom of the bore. The 1-2 chamfered thread profile makes it effective in applications where full thread engagement near the bottom of the hole is critical. Typical installations include machine shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance environments working with ductile metals such as aluminum, mild steel, and copper alloys where chip-free threading is an advantage.
Designed for use in standard tap wrenches, tapping heads, and CNC tapping equipment with a 0.367 inch shank diameter and 0.276 inch square drive size compatible with M12x1.75 metric blind hole applications.
Thread forming taps require the correct forming tap drill size, which differs from standard cutting tap drill sizes — consult a forming tap drill chart before drilling the pilot hole. Secure the workpiece fully and use a recommended tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material. Ensure the tap is driven straight and true to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. This tool should be handled and installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping operations.
