The HERTEL K010454AS is a metric thread forming tap designed for creating M5x0.8 internal threads in through-hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips. This tap is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and features a plug chamfer with 3 to 5 chamfered threads for controlled entry. The overall length is 2.375 inches with a thread length of 0.875 inches. It is suited for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working on metric-threaded assemblies.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading in metric applications where a right-hand M5x0.8 thread is required. The plug chamfer makes it appropriate for through-holes where the tap can pass fully through the workpiece. It is a practical choice for production and maintenance environments working with ferrous and non-ferrous materials that respond well to cold forming. Thread limit is D7, which controls the tolerance class of the finished thread.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tap for through-hole metric threading applications requiring an M5x0.8 right-hand thread with a D7 thread limit.
Thread forming taps require a specific tap drill size matched to the material being formed - consult a thread forming drill chart for the correct hole diameter before use. Secure the workpiece firmly and apply appropriate tapping fluid for the material type. Use a calibrated tap wrench or CNC tapping head set to the correct feed rate to avoid overloading the tap shank. Follow applicable shop safety and tooling standards for rotating cutting tools.
