The HERTEL K010348AS25 is a thread forming tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap carries a 10-24 UNC thread specification, a plug chamfer with 3 to 5 chamfered threads for gradual thread engagement, and a Titanium Nitride coating over a High-Speed Steel body to extend tool life and reduce friction under load. Overall length is 2.375 inches with a thread length of 0.875 inches. It is installed by machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance mechanics in production and repair environments.
This tap is suited for through-hole applications in light manufacturing, maintenance repair, and fabrication shops. The plug chamfer style makes it a general-purpose choice for threading pre-drilled through holes where the tap can pass fully through the workpiece. The H4 thread limit designation indicates the tolerance class for the finished thread, which is relevant when matching fastener fit class on precision assemblies. Right-hand thread direction is standard for the 10-24 UNC specification.
Designed for use in standard tap handles, tapping heads, or CNC tapping attachments that accept a 0.194-inch shank diameter with a 0.152-inch square drive. Suitable for through-hole threading in materials compatible with 10-24 UNC thread forming operations.
Thread forming taps require the correct forming tap drill size, which is larger than the drill size used for cutting taps of the same thread specification - confirm the appropriate drill diameter before starting. Secure the workpiece and align the tap perpendicular to the drilled hole before applying torque. Use a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged tap can seize in the hole and require extraction.
