The HERTEL K010331AS25 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for 6-32 UNC threading applications in blind holes. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap forms threads by displacing material rather than cutting, producing strong, work-hardened threads without chips. The TiN coating reduces friction and extends tool life in production environments. With a 2-inch overall length and a 0.6875-inch thread length, this tap is sized for compact fastener applications common in electrical enclosures, instrument panels, and light fabrication work. It carries a 2B class of fit and H3 thread limit for standard tolerance threading.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in soft to medium-hardness metals including aluminum, brass, and mild steel. The bottoming chamfer — with 1 to 2 chamfered threads — allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it the right choice when full thread depth is required and clearance is minimal. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades use this tap in CNC tapping operations, drill press setups, and hand-tapping fixtures where a 6-32 UNC thread is required in tight or bottom-critical locations.
Designed for use in standard 0.141-inch shank tap holders and collet-style tapping chucks compatible with the 0.110-inch square drive. Suitable for blind hole threading in materials appropriate for thread forming, including non-ferrous metals and low-carbon steels.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized tap drill hole — the forming drill diameter for 6-32 UNC differs from a standard cutting tap drill size and must be confirmed before use. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole surface before starting. Apply appropriate tapping fluid for the workpiece material to reduce friction and prevent galling. Replace the tap at the first sign of excessive torque or surface finish degradation to avoid thread damage in the workpiece.
