The HERTEL K010330AS25 is a thread forming tap designed for creating 6-32 UNC internal threads in ductile materials without cutting or producing chips. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form the thread profile by displacing material, resulting in stronger threads and longer tool life in suitable workpieces. This tap features a plug chamfer with 3 to 5 chamfered threads for gradual thread engagement, a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating for improved surface hardness and lubricity, and a High-Speed Steel (HSS) body rated for general machining applications. It is used by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals in production and repair environments.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in soft to medium-hardness metals such as aluminum, brass, and low-carbon steel. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate for through-holes where the tap can advance fully through the workpiece. The 6-32 UNC thread size is a standard fastener thread commonly encountered in electrical enclosures, electronic assemblies, instrument panels, and light mechanical assemblies. It is sold individually and is compatible with standard tap holders and drive equipment sized for the 0.141-inch shank diameter.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for through-hole thread forming operations requiring a 6-32 UNC, 2B class of fit tap with H3 thread limit in a plug chamfer configuration.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication with a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material to prevent galling and tool damage. Power down and secure all workpieces before tapping operations. Use a properly sized tap holder that matches the 0.141-inch shank diameter to ensure concentricity and avoid tap breakage. Thread forming is not suitable for brittle materials such as cast iron or hardened steel - confirm material ductility before use.
