The HERTEL K010300AS is a thread forming tap designed for creating internal 0-80 UNF threads in blind holes without cutting. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. Made from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this tap features a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 2 threads, making it suited for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 1.625 inches with a thread length of 0.3125 inches and a shank diameter of 0.141 inches. The H2 thread limit ensures consistent fit tolerance for 3B class of fit applications.
This tap is intended for use in blind hole threading operations where a 0-80 UNF thread form is required. The 0-80 thread size is common in precision instrument work, electronics, and miniature mechanical assemblies. The bottoming chamfer allows threading to within 1 to 2 pitches of the hole bottom, which is critical when thread engagement depth is limited. Right-hand thread direction is standard. Typical users include machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working with fine-pitch miniature fasteners in ferrous and non-ferrous materials suited to thread forming.

Thread forming taps require a specific tap drill size matched to the thread form - consult a thread forming drill chart for the correct hole diameter before use, as it differs from cutting tap recommendations. Secure the workpiece and use a properly sized tap wrench or CNC tapping chuck to maintain alignment. Apply appropriate tapping fluid for the workpiece material to reduce tap wear and improve thread quality. Power down any machine spindle and follow standard lockout/tagout procedures before changing tooling.
