The HERTEL HTTPG321420CD is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting and finishing operations on CNC and manual lathes. Built to the HT-TPG insert style, it features a triangular shape (T) with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/8-inch insert thickness, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The insert is supplied in a bright, uncoated finish and is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder. PCD tooling is specified when machining non-ferrous metals, composites, or highly abrasive workpiece materials where carbide grades wear too quickly. This insert carries grade HT420CD and is indexed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and finishing passes on non-ferrous metals such as aluminum alloys, copper alloys, and similar materials, as well as fiber-reinforced composites and other abrasive non-metallic workpieces. The triangular geometry provides up to three usable cutting edges per insert, making it an economical choice for moderate-volume production runs. It is installed in HT-TPG-compatible toolholders with standard clamp-style retention. Machinists working in aerospace, automotive, and general precision machining environments commonly specify PCD inserts for their superior edge retention and surface finish capability at elevated cutting speeds.

PCD turning inserts are installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret or tool post before indexing or replacing an insert. Use a torque wrench on the clamp screw if the toolholder manufacturer specifies a value — do not overtighten by hand. PCD edges are extremely hard but brittle; avoid interrupted cuts, hard inclusions, or ferrous workpieces, which will fracture the cutting edge.
