The HERTEL H82331695 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the 16IR/EL insert style, this right-hand insert delivers a cutting width of 0.094 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.089 inches, making it well suited for tight-tolerance groove profiles. The HG220TR manufacturer grade with a TiC and TiN multi-layer finish provides wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cut cycles. Machinists and toolroom technicians specify this insert for applications where consistent groove width and depth repeatability are critical.
This insert fits standard 16IR/EL grooving toolholders used in external grooving setups on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The right-hand orientation suits conventional lathe setups where the tool approaches the workpiece from the operator side. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle dimension and 0.004-inch corner radius make it appropriate for fine-finish groove work. Typical depth of cut range for this insert is 0.075 inches to 0.100 inches, giving operators a practical window for groove depth adjustment without changing inserts.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 16IR/EL style external grooving toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping style before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out, and tagged-out condition per applicable machine safety standards. Use the correct torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamping screw - do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping mechanism for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm insert hand orientation and overhang dimension against the setup sheet before resuming cutting operations.
