The HERTEL H59874446 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured to the TPCG220.5 insert style in a 60-degree triangular geometry, this insert is PVD TiN coated to grade HP520B, which places it in the C5 carbide material grade range suitable for finishing and semi-finishing cuts on steel and cast iron. It features a 1/64-inch corner radius and a 3/32-inch thickness, making it appropriate for light to medium material removal where tight tolerances and surface finish matter. The insert is held by screw-on clamping and is right-hand oriented. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments rely on this insert for consistent bore geometry.
This insert is suited for boring and internal turning applications in both production and job-shop settings. The triangular TPCG form factor with an 11-degree relief angle provides clearance during light finishing passes. The 1/4-inch inscribed circle (IC) size fits standard boring bars and toolholders designed for TPCG-style inserts. It is appropriate for machining steel, cast iron, and similar materials where a TiN-coated carbide grade provides adequate wear resistance and edge integrity. Right-hand cutting orientation should be confirmed against the toolholder setup before installation.
Designed as a replacement or replenishment insert for toolholders and boring bars that accept TPCG-style screw-on inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry, insert hand orientation, and clamping screw thread before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination in the pocket affects runout and edge life. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as they present a risk of insert fracture during cutting.
