The HERTEL H59872796 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. This insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (CDHB style) with a 0.002 inch corner radius and a 5/32 inch (0.1563 inch) inscribed circle diameter, making it well suited for tight-tolerance bore finishing. The CVD-applied multilayer coating sequence of TiN, TiC, TiCN, and TiN delivers a hard, wear-resistant surface that extends tool life in steel and cast iron applications. The 15-degree relief angle reduces cutting forces and minimizes rubbing on the bore wall. Grade HC620B places this insert in the C7 carbide material grade range, appropriate for finishing cuts on ferrous materials.
This insert is intended for boring bar toolholders that accept CDHB-style inserts with a screw-clamping holding method. It is used in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments where accurate bore sizing is required. Typical applications include internal diameter finishing on steel components in light to medium cutting conditions. The 0.04 inch insert thickness and compact inscribed circle size make it a practical choice for small-diameter boring operations where clearance and rigidity are critical factors.
Designed for boring bar toolholders accepting CDHB-style inserts with a screw-clamping holding method and a 5/32 inch inscribed circle. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions against insert style code CDHB1.20.60.1 before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not over-torque, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before installation to ensure full, flat seating.
