The HERTEL H59872788 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal machining operations. It features an 80-degree diamond shape (CDHB style) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process, improving surface hardness and wear resistance over uncoated carbide. The insert carries a manufacturer grade of HP520B and a material grade of C5, placing it in applications requiring reliable cutting performance on a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. With a 0.002-inch corner radius and a 15-degree relief angle, this insert is suited for fine boring passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are priorities. Installation is performed by a screw-holding method.
This insert is intended for use in boring bars and boring heads configured for CDHB-style inserts. It fits tools accepting a 5/32-inch (0.1563-inch) inscribed circle with a 0.0400-inch thickness. Typical applications include CNC lathe and machining center boring operations on both production and job-shop floors. The combination of solid carbide substrate and TiN coating makes it appropriate for moderate-speed boring of steel, cast iron, and similar materials where insert rigidity and edge retention are required.
Designed for boring bars and tool holders configured to accept CDHB-style inserts with a 5/32-inch inscribed circle and 0.0400-inch insert thickness. Confirm holder specifications before ordering.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the tool holder manufacturer - do not overtighten the clamping screw, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to cracking under uneven clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
