The HERTEL H08700304 is an indexable threading toolholder designed for internal threading operations on lathes and turning centers. Built in the HSIR series, this right-hand toolholder accepts 16IR inserts secured by a screw-clamp holding method, which provides firm insert retention during threading passes. It features a 1.25-inch shank diameter and an 8-inch overall length, making it suitable for boring bar-style setups where reach and rigidity are both required. The 1.4-inch minimum bore diameter defines the smallest internal feature this tool can access. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working in job shops or production environments are the primary users of this toolholder.
This toolholder is applied in internal threading applications where a pre-bored hole must be threaded to a finished specification. The HSIR style positions the insert at the correct geometry for generating internal thread forms. With a neck diameter of 1.25 inches and a center-to-cutting-edge distance of 0.77 inches, it is suited for moderate-depth bores in steel, cast iron, and similar materials. The back-of-bar to cutting edge measurement of 1.4 inches aligns with the minimum bore entry requirement. Coolant-through capability is not included on this model.
Designed for use with 16IR series threading inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. No additional compatible model or system information was provided in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and in a locked-out state before toolholder changes are made. The shank should be seated and clamped securely in the turret or boring bar holder to the machine manufacturer's specified clamping requirements. Insert index or replacement should follow the insert manufacturer's seating procedure to ensure proper cutting edge positioning. Verify minimum bore clearance against the 1.4-inch entry diameter before beginning a threading cycle.
