The HERTEL GH99914223 is a 6-flute square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M7 high speed steel with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, it provides extended cutting life compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 1 inch diameter cutting head features a 30-degree helix angle and spiral flute geometry, supporting efficient chip evacuation during peripheral and slot milling. With a 5/8 inch shank diameter and 4 inch overall length, this is a regular-length tool suited for general machining work on manual mills and CNC machining centers. Installation and setup are performed by machinists and toolroom technicians.
This end mill is suited for production and job-shop environments where a durable, mid-range HSS tool is preferred over carbide for interrupted cuts or applications where tool deflection and breakage risk are concerns. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is the standard orientation for conventional and climb milling setups. The 1-7/8 inch length of cut falls within the 1.5 to 2 inch LOC range, giving adequate depth engagement for most standard milling passes. It is not center-cutting, so it should not be used for direct plunge operations without a pre-drilled entry hole.
Designed as a replacement or standard-stock square end mill for toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch shank diameter, compatible with ER collet chucks, Weldon-style side-lock holders, and similar setups used on vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or changing tooling. Verify shank seating depth and holder runout before cutting to avoid premature tool wear or breakage. Because this tool is not center-cutting, always use a pre-drilled or pre-bored hole when starting an interior pocket cut.
