The HERTEL E8031908 is a 4-flute square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M7 high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tool offers improved surface hardness and wear resistance over uncoated HSS. The 3/4-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1/2-inch shank, and the 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation during peripheral and slot milling. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard. Overall length is 3.625 inches, keeping the tool rigid in standard milling setups. Machinists and toolroom operators working on knee mills, CNC machining centers, or manual bridgeports will find this a practical general-purpose end mill.
This end mill is suited for light to medium material removal in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. The regular-length geometry and 1-5/8-inch length of cut make it appropriate for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling passes at standard depths. The non-center-cutting design means it is not intended for direct plunging; ramp-in or helical entry is recommended when full-slot entry is required. It is packaged individually and sold in single-unit quantities, making it a practical option for low-volume tooling requirements.
Designed as a standard-shank replacement end mill for use in any milling machine or machining center equipped with a 1/2-inch collet or end mill holder accepting a 3/4-inch diameter cutter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the 1/2-inch shank fully in the collet or holder before torquing to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear and reduces surface finish quality.
