The HERTEL E4053040 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling, making it a reliable choice for production environments running higher feeds and speeds. The cutting end features a TiN (titanium nitride) coating that further extends tool life and reduces friction at the cutting edge. With a 0.625-inch diameter, a 1.375-inch length of cut, and a 5-inch overall length, this tool suits a wide range of roughing and finishing operations on manual and CNC mills.
This end mill is intended for use in metalworking applications including slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar alloys. The four-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle provides a good balance of chip evacuation and surface finish. The center-cutting geometry allows direct plunge entry without pre-drilling. It is typically installed by machinists in job shops, tool rooms, and production machine shops running vertical mills, knee mills, or CNC machining centers with standard end mill holders or collet chucks.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for standard 0.625-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and ER-style collets used in vertical mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully powered off and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Secure the shank to the full recommended grip depth in the tool holder to minimize runout and prevent pull-out under cutting loads. Inspect the collet or holder for wear or contamination before seating the tool. Follow the machine manufacturer guidelines and appropriate machining standards for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut based on workpiece material.
