The HERTEL E4050028 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool delivers extended tool life compared to standard M2 HSS end mills. It features a TiN (titanium nitride) coating that reduces friction and improves wear resistance. The 7/16 inch cutting diameter, 2-flute spiral configuration, and 30-degree helix angle make it well-suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. With a 13/16 inch length of cut and centercutting capability, this end mill handles both plunge and conventional milling passes. It is installed by machinists and toolroom operators in manual and CNC milling machines.
This end mill is intended for use in vertical milling machines, knee mills, and CNC machining centers where a 1/2 inch tool holder or collet is available. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending the service life of the tool before replacement is required. With a regular-length designation and an overall length of 3-3/4 inches, it fits standard setups without requiring extended-reach adapters. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry align with conventional milling machine spindle rotation. The 30-degree helix promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces chatter in typical shop applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling addition for milling setups requiring a 1/2 inch shank, 7/16 inch diameter square end mill in the regular-length category.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the 1/2 inch shank in a collet, end mill holder, or Weldon-style holder with the appropriate set screw torque per the holder manufacturer specification. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before changing tooling. Inspect the TiN coating and cutting edges for chips or wear before each use; a damaged end mill should not be returned to service.
