The HERTEL E299914031 is a single-end ball end mill designed for milling contoured surfaces, slots, and pockets in metal and other hard materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool handles higher cutting temperatures than standard HSS, making it well-suited for tougher alloys and interrupted cuts. The 0.375-inch diameter cutting face with a 30-degree right-hand spiral helix provides smooth chip evacuation across its 2.5-inch length of cut. With 4 flutes and an uncoated finish, this end mill delivers precise geometry without added coating thickness, which benefits applications requiring tight dimensional tolerances. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the typical users.
This end mill is appropriate for use on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling machines in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. It fits applications involving ferrous and non-ferrous metals where a ball nose profile is required for 3D contour work, radius floors, or blending operations. The 3/8-inch shank diameter makes it compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders in that bore size. The 4.25-inch overall length provides adequate reach for moderate-depth cavity work without excessive overhang.
Designed as a standard single-end ball end mill with a 3/8-inch shank diameter, compatible with any milling machine spindle or tool holder accepting that bore size, including ER collet chucks, set-screw end mill holders, and shrink-fit holders rated for the shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's tool-change procedure. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and at a complete stop before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the holder and torque the retention fastener to the holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, and verify runout with a dial indicator after tool change on precision work.
