The HERTEL E2050017 is a cobalt square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal cutting applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool delivers strong wear resistance and heat tolerance in demanding cutting conditions. It features a 17/64 inch (0.2656 inch) cutting diameter, a 9/16 inch length of cut, and a 3/8 inch shank diameter with an overall length of 3-1/8 inches. The 30-degree spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the centercutting design allows for plunge cutting as well as peripheral milling. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians use this type of end mill for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations.
This end mill is suited for use on manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills operating in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where cobalt tooling is preferred over standard high-speed steel. The double-end configuration provides a second usable cutting end, extending tool life between replacements. With a right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction, it runs in standard spindle rotation. The regular length classification makes it appropriate for general-purpose work where extended reach tooling is not required. Typical applications include mold work, fixture fabrication, and general job-shop machining.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cutting tool for 3/8 inch shank tool holders on manual mills and CNC machining centers requiring a 17/64 inch diameter square end mill.
Install this end mill into a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder sized for a 3/8 inch shank. Ensure the spindle and machine are fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling per applicable machine safety procedures. Confirm tool runout with a dial indicator after seating to avoid premature edge wear. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut appropriate to the workpiece material.
