The HERTEL E2050014 is a cobalt square end mill designed for precision milling in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool delivers extended tool life compared to standard M2 HSS end mills. It features a 7/32-inch cutting diameter, a 1/2-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle with spiral flutes for efficient chip evacuation. The uncoated finish suits applications where coating buildup would compromise tolerances. With a right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration, it runs on standard milling machines, CNC machining centers, and knee mills. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for peripheral and slot milling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys where cobalt tooling is preferred over carbide for its toughness and resistance to chipping. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending the service interval per tool. The 3/8-inch shank diameter fits standard ER collets, side-lock holders, and shrink-fit tooling. Typical applications include keyway cutting, profiling, and contour milling in job shop, production, and maintenance-repair environments. The regular-length profile keeps the tool rigid in setups with minimal reach requirements.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 3/8-inch shank square end mills in ER collet chucks, side-lock end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems used on manual knee mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or lockout-tagout state before changing tooling. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the holder and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Do not exceed the rated depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity.
