The HERTEL E2042980 is a 1-inch diameter, 6-flute cobalt square end mill engineered for demanding milling applications in ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance beyond standard HSS tooling. The 30-degree right-hand helix promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces chatter during full-slot and peripheral milling. With a 3-inch length of cut and 5.5-inch overall length, this is a standard-reach tool suited for production environments where tool life and edge retention are the priority. Machinists and toolroom professionals working on CNC machining centers and manual mills are the primary users.
This end mill is well suited for milling operations in job shops, toolrooms, and production facilities working with steels, stainless steels, and similar tough materials. Its centercutting geometry allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole, which adds flexibility when slotting or ramping into a workpiece. The 1-inch straight shank fits standard R8, CAT, BT, and ER collet toolholders commonly found in vertical machining centers and knee mills. The regular-length configuration keeps deflection low in most standard-depth cavity and slot work.
Designed as an OEM-style solid end mill replacement for 1-inch straight-shank toolholders including R8 collets, ER collet chucks, and similar systems used in vertical machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and runout specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in E-stop before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the collet or holder to minimize runout and prevent pullout under load. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the material being machined.
