The HERTEL E2041028 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials in machining centers and manual mills. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention under demanding cutting conditions. The 7/16 inch (0.4375 inch) mill diameter pairs with a 1/2 inch shank, and the 2-3/4 inch length of cut accommodates deep slot and profile work. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The uncoated finish suits applications where regrinding is common. This tool is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The E2041028 is suited for slotting, peripheral milling, and profiling operations in ferrous metals, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys where cobalt tooling is preferred over standard HSS. Its extra-long length-of-cut category and 4-3/4 inch overall length make it practical for reaching deeper features or stepped cavities that standard-length end mills cannot access. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as conventional side milling, adding operational flexibility on manual or CNC equipment. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation is standard for conventional spindle rotation.
Designed as a standard square end mill for use in any milling machine or machining center accepting a 1/2 inch straight shank via collet, end mill holder, or set-screw adapter.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the 1/2 inch shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and confirm runout before cutting. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or in E-stop before changing tooling. Avoid excessive overhang beyond the length of cut to minimize deflection and chatter, particularly given the extra-long overall length.
