The HERTEL E2041024 is a cobalt square end mill designed for demanding metal-cutting applications where standard high-speed steel tooling falls short. Built from M42 cobalt material grade, this end mill delivers improved heat and wear resistance during heavy cuts. The tool features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 2-1/2 inch length of cut, and a 4-1/4 inch overall length, placing it in the extra-long category for added reach into deep pockets and slots. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This is a center-cutting tool, meaning it can plunge directly into a workpiece without a pre-drilled entry point.
This end mill is suited for milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including steel alloys, stainless, and cast iron, where elevated cutting temperatures would degrade standard HSS tooling. The extra-long length of cut makes it well-suited for deep pocket milling, slotting, and profiling in CNC machining centers and manual mills. The 3/8 inch straight shank fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders common in both production and job-shop environments. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry match the conventional spindle rotation found on the majority of vertical machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct tooling selection for machining centers and manual mills accepting a 3/8 inch shank end mill holder or collet chuck.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in a safe state before loading or removing the end mill. Seat the shank to the recommended minimum engagement depth in the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the tool-holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, as cobalt tooling can fracture if run in a damaged condition.
