The HERTEL E2039044 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous metals, stainless steels, and hard materials where high-speed steel tooling falls short. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it offers improved heat and wear resistance over standard HSS. The cutter measures 11/16 inches (0.6875 inches) in diameter with a 1-5/8 inches length of cut and a 3-3/4 inches overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The bright uncoated finish suits applications where coating interaction with workpiece material is a concern. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this type of tooling on manual mills and CNC machining centers.
This end mill is suited for general-purpose slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 5/8 inches shank diameter fits standard ER and R8 collet systems as well as side-lock holders common in vertical milling setups. Its regular-length geometry keeps deflection manageable in conventional depth-of-cut applications. The centercutting design allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole, adding versatility in production and repair machining environments.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or production square end mill for use in 5/8 inches collet chucks, ER collet systems, and side-lock end mill holders on vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolroom practices. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the machine is in a safe locked-out state before mounting or changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the holder and torque the retention hardware to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, particularly in finishing or tight-tolerance applications.
