The HERTEL E1034040 is a 4-flute square end mill designed for milling, slotting, and profiling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Manufactured from M7 high speed steel, this tool offers a 5/8 inch cutting diameter with a 2-1/2 inch length of cut, making it well suited for deeper pocket work and side milling where standard-length tools fall short. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip flow and reduces cutting forces. The uncoated finish keeps the tool cost-effective for general-purpose HSS applications. Overall length is 4-5/8 inches with a 5/8 inch shank diameter. Installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job shop environments.
This end mill is classified as a long series tool, providing extended reach for applications where standard-length end mills cannot access the full depth of a feature. It runs right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes. The non-centercutting geometry means it is intended for peripheral milling, side milling, and slotting rather than plunge cutting. Typical materials include mild steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and aluminum in both CNC and manual milling machine setups.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling option for any milling machine or machining center accepting a 5/8 inch straight shank end mill held in an R8 collet, ER collet, or end mill holder of the appropriate bore size.
This tool is installed by machinists using an appropriate collet or end mill holder rated for the 5/8 inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Non-centercutting tools must not be used for direct plunge operations into solid material without a pre-drilled hole or ramp entry. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed selection based on workpiece material and depth of cut.
