The HERTEL E1030020 is a single-end square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Ground from M7 high speed steel, it delivers reliable edge retention in applications where carbide tooling is not required. The cutter measures 5/16 inches in diameter with a 9/16 inches length of cut and a 3/8 inches shank diameter, giving it a compact profile suited to light slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for HSS tooling used across a wide range of shop environments. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users. The 30-degree right-hand helix and right-hand cutting direction produce a smooth chip evacuation path on conventional milling setups.
This end mill is appropriate for use in manual knee mills, CNC machining centers, and drill press setups where end milling capability is needed. The 5/16 inches diameter suits narrow slot work, keyway cutting, and contour profiling in small workpieces or tight-tolerance features. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry, which expands its use in applications requiring ramp or plunge entry moves without a pre-drilled pilot hole. It is a practical choice for job shops, maintenance departments, and production environments running lower spindle loads.
Designed as a standard single-end square end mill with a 3/8 inches shank diameter, compatible with ER collets, end mill holders, and side-lock holders sized for 3/8 inches shanks on manual or CNC milling machines.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the minimum recommended engagement depth before tightening. Verify runout at the cutting diameter with a dial indicator before taking finish passes; excessive runout accelerates premature wear on HSS end mills.
