The HERTEL C.E12.1429 is an extra length twist drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot reach. Ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish, this bit features a 118-degree split point and two flutes for efficient chip evacuation. At 24 inches overall length with an 18-inch flute length, it handles deep-reach drilling in metal, wood, and general-purpose materials. The 9/16-inch diameter (0.5625 inches decimal) suits a wide range of structural and fabrication tasks. Machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance mechanics typically reach for this bit when standard-length tooling falls short on deep structural members or long-reach setups.
This bit fits general-purpose drilling applications across industrial, commercial, and trade environments. The extended reach makes it well-suited for drilling through thick steel plate, deep timber, conduit work, or structural members where a drill press or right-angle drive requires additional flute length beyond standard jobber dimensions. The HSS construction handles moderate-speed drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals without requiring carbide tooling. It is a practical addition to a field or shop kit wherever deep-hole access is a regular requirement.
Designed as a general-purpose extra length drill bit suitable for use in standard drill chucks and drill presses that accept a 9/16-inch shank, across metalworking, fabrication, and trade installation applications.
Extra length drill bits are more susceptible to deflection than jobber-length bits - use a center punch to establish a pilot point before drilling and run at reduced RPM to minimize walking and heat buildup. Secure the workpiece firmly before beginning. Apply cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and maintain point geometry. Inspect the cutting edges before each use; a dull or chipped point on an extended bit increases deflection risk significantly.
