The HERTEL C.E11.0714 is an extra length high-speed steel drill bit designed for applications requiring deep hole drilling beyond the reach of standard-length bits. It carries a 118-degree split point and an oxide finish that provides basic lubricity and corrosion resistance during drilling operations. At 18 inches overall length with a 12-inch flute length, it handles deep-reach work in structural steel, iron, general-purpose metals, and some plastics. The 0.2812-inch diameter corresponds to a 9/32-inch nominal size. It is used by machinists, ironworkers, pipefitters, electricians, and HVAC techs when drilling through deep structural members, thick tube bundles, or wall assemblies where a standard-length bit cannot reach the full depth.
This bit suits general-purpose production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication shops, mechanical rooms, and field service applications. The extra length makes it well suited for drilling through deep structural steel sections, heavy-gauge enclosures, and layered assemblies. It fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks on portable drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills. The 2-flute geometry provides efficient chip evacuation in through-hole applications on ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Designed as a general-purpose extra length drill bit compatible with any standard 3-jaw drill chuck accepting a 0.2812-inch shank, including portable electric drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills used in metal fabrication and mechanical service work.
This bit is installed by machinists, pipefitters, electricians, and HVAC technicians using standard drill chucks. Ensure the chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is clamped securely before drilling to prevent bit deflection at extended length. Use appropriate cutting fluid or oil when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life and manage heat. Extra length bits are more susceptible to flex and deflection than standard lengths - reduce feed pressure accordingly and use a center punch to establish the starting point.
