The HERTEL C.E05.0953 is an aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the work area. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust required to start a hole. The 3/8-inch diameter straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. Two spiral flutes with a tapered web configuration and web thinning promote efficient chip evacuation throughout the cut. Licensed tradespeople and aircraft maintenance technicians reach for this bit when clearance or depth makes a jobber-length bit impractical.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in metals, composites, and similar materials in applications where extended reach is required. Common scenarios include drilling through airframe structural members, deep-set fastener holes, and hard-to-reach structural panels. The 12-inch overall length combined with a 3.625-inch flute length gives enough reach for most aircraft and heavy fabrication work while keeping the flute short enough to maintain rigidity and chip control. HVAC sheet-metal fabricators and industrial maintenance technicians also use aircraft extension bits when standard bits lack the reach for ducting frames and equipment enclosures.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit compatible with any standard drill press, handheld drill, or right-angle drill accepting a 3/8-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by aviation maintenance technicians, industrial machinists, or qualified tradespeople familiar with metalworking operations. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify the bit runs true before contacting the workpiece. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Always wear eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling.
