The HERTEL C.E05.0676 is an aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot access the work area. Sized at Letter H (0.2660 inches decimal), this bit features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing walking and the need for a center punch. Constructed from high-speed steel with an oxide finish for added surface hardness, it spans 12 inches in overall length and uses a straight-cylindrical shank. The two-flute spiral configuration with a web-thinned, tapered web promotes efficient chip evacuation during extended-depth cuts.
This bit is built for general-purpose drilling in aerospace, aviation maintenance, and industrial fabrication environments where extended reach is required. It is well suited for drilling through airframe structures, tubing, and assemblies that restrict direct bit access. Right-hand cutting direction makes it compatible with standard drill presses, hand drills, and pneumatic drilling equipment. The 2.875-inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance even at depth. It meets NAS 907 standards, making it appropriate for work performed to aerospace drilling specifications.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks accepting a 0.2660-inch shank diameter, suitable for use in hand drills, right-angle drills, and drill presses.
Aircraft extension drill bits should be installed by qualified aviation maintenance technicians or industrial machinists following applicable workplace and aerospace safety procedures. Ensure the drill chuck is fully secured around the straight-cylindrical shank before operation and confirm the workpiece is properly fixtured to prevent movement. Operate at speeds appropriate for the material being drilled — high-speed steel bits require reduced RPM on hard alloys to avoid overheating. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or damage before each use and replace the bit if tip geometry is compromised.
