The HERTEL C.E05.0518 is a No. 6 wire-size aircraft extension drill bit designed for drilling in hard-to-reach applications where a standard-length bit cannot reach. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it measures 12 inches in overall length with a 2.5-inch spiral flute. The 135-degree split point is self-centering and web-thinned, reducing the thrust needed to start a hole and minimizing walking on entry. Right-hand cutting direction and a straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks. This bit follows NAS 907 standards and is suited for general-purpose drilling in metal, composite, and structural materials common in aircraft maintenance and fabrication work.
This extension drill bit is used in aerospace maintenance, sheet metal fabrication, and structural assembly where deep reach or obstructed access is required. The 12-inch body gives technicians clearance to drill through frames, bulkheads, and panels that standard jobber-length bits cannot access. It is appropriate for use in hand drills, right-angle drill motors, and drill presses. The No. 6 wire size at 0.2040 inch decimal diameter is a commonly specified size in aircraft structural drilling applications conforming to NAS 907.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit for use with standard straight-shank drill chucks. Conforms to NAS 907 standards; verify hole-size and tolerance requirements against your applicable engineering drawing before use.
This bit is installed and serviced by machinists, aerospace maintenance technicians, and sheet metal workers. Secure the straight cylindrical shank fully in the chuck before drilling and confirm the chuck is tightened to prevent slippage. Power down the drill completely before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended RPM for the bit diameter and material being drilled; running HSS bits too fast in hard alloys will shorten tool life and can cause premature breakage on an extension-length bit.
