The HERTEL C.E05.0218 is a No. 44 aircraft extension drill bit engineered for deep-reach drilling applications in aerospace and industrial environments. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on entry and reduces the need for a center punch. The extended 12-inch overall length gives technicians access to tight or recessed locations that standard-length bits cannot reach. With a 0.0860-inch decimal diameter, two spiral flutes, and a web-thinned tapered web, it evacuates chips efficiently and maintains cutting performance through the full depth of the hole. Licensed trades and aircraft maintenance technicians are the primary installers.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in sheet metal, structural aluminum, and light alloys commonly found in aircraft frames, assemblies, and airframe repair work. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks without adapters. Its right-hand cutting direction is compatible with conventional drill motors used in both shop and field environments. The 1.125-inch flute length handles material thickness typical of aircraft skin and structural panels. It conforms to NAS 907 standards, making it appropriate for work performed under aerospace maintenance and manufacturing specifications.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks used in aerospace, sheet metal, and industrial drilling applications.
This drill bit is typically installed and used by aircraft maintenance technicians, machinists, and sheet metal workers. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in the drill chuck before operation and verify chuck key is removed before starting the drill. When drilling through stacked materials or thin sheet metal, use appropriate clamping to prevent workpiece movement. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and any relevant NAS or shop specifications for drilling procedures and speeds.
