The HERTEL C.E03.0457 is a wire gauge size 15 aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications in metalworking and aerospace-adjacent trades. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering starts and reduced walking on flat or curved surfaces. At 6 inches overall length with a 2.1875-inch spiral flute, it reaches into tight or recessed areas where standard-length bits cannot. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.1800 inches in diameter, matching the 0.1800-inch decimal bore size. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust during drilling and improves chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole work.
This bit is suited for general-purpose metal drilling in aircraft structure, sheet metal, and fabrication applications. The extended length makes it practical for drilling through stacked materials, structural members, or panels where access is limited. It is commonly used by aviation maintenance technicians, sheet metal fabricators, and industrial maintenance mechanics. Right-hand cutting direction and two-flute spiral design keep it compatible with standard drill presses, hand drills, and right-angle drill motors used in production and repair environments.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit conforming to NAS 907 standards, suitable for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks across hand drills, drill presses, and right-angle drill motors accepting a 0.1800-inch shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists, aviation maintenance technicians, or sheet metal fabricators familiar with drill speed and feed rates for the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent movement that can cause bit breakage or oversized holes. Inspect the bit for chipping or wear before each use and replace if the cutting edges are degraded. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and aviation maintenance documentation when drilling structural aircraft components.
