The HERTEL C.40W.0873 is a taper length drill bit designed for drilling through metal and other materials where extended reach beyond a jobber-length bit is required. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a black oxide finish, it offers moderate corrosion resistance and reduced friction during cutting. The bit measures 0.3438 inches (11/32 inch) in diameter with an overall length of 6.5 inches and a flute length of 4.125 inches. The 118-degree standard point angle suits general-purpose drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust force at the cutting point, making it easier to start holes cleanly. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance professionals rely on this bit for production and repair applications.
This drill bit is suited for drilling operations in metal fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and manufacturing environments where a longer flute length is needed to reach deeper hole depths or to clear chips more effectively. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without any special toolholding required. Right-hand spiral flutes pull chips up and out of the hole during drilling, reducing heat buildup and improving hole finish. The bit is appropriate for use in drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held power drills where the chuck capacity accommodates 11/32-inch shank diameter.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard taper length drill bit for use in any drill press, CNC drilling operation, or handheld power tool with a chuck capacity of at least 11/32 inch.
This bit is installed and removed by a licensed machinist or trained tradesperson using a standard drill chuck key or keyless chuck. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent rotation or movement. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling in ferrous metals to extend tool life and improve hole quality.
