The HERTEL 91196980 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tool delivers extended wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. It features a 3/4 inch cutting diameter, 4 flutes, and a 3/4 inch length of cut, with an overall length of 2-7/8 inches. The serrated or wave-form cutting edge geometry typical of roughing end mills breaks chips efficiently and reduces cutting forces, making it well suited for hogging operations on steel, stainless, and ferrous alloys. Machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers rely on this class of tool for rough profiling and slotting before finishing passes.
This end mill is suited for use in vertical milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills where roughing cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous metals are required. The 3/4 inch shank diameter matches standard R8, CAT, BT, and collet-style toolholders common in job shop and production environments. The right-hand cutting, right-hand flute configuration is the standard orientation for conventional and climb milling on most CNC and manual platforms. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece where setup permits.

Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated per shop safety procedures. Secure the shank to the full depth of the toolholder collet or set-screw bore and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Consult the machine manufacturer and applicable OSHA machining safety guidelines for proper speeds, feeds, and workholding before operation. Never exceed the toolholder rated speed or overhang the shank beyond the recommended length.
