The HERTEL 91196956 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, this tool delivers heat and wear resistance suited to ferrous and high-temperature alloys. It runs a 2-inch cutting diameter with 8 fine-pitch flutes, producing a controlled chip load and a relatively smooth finish for a rougher. The 4-inch length of cut and 1.25-inch shank diameter make it a fit for deep-pocket and heavy-stock-removal applications on vertical mills and machining centers. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. This tool is not center-cutting.
This end mill is intended for shop machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and CNC operators working in job-shop or production environments. Typical applications include roughing passes on steel, stainless, and cobalt-alloy workpieces where conventional HSS tooling lacks the thermal stability to maintain edge life. The 8-flute fine-pitch geometry reduces chip load per tooth, allowing higher feed rates while managing vibration in rigid setups. It is well-suited to box-way knee mills and rigid vertical machining centers with adequate spindle horsepower to drive a 2-inch cutter through tough stock.
Designed as a direct-fit roughing end mill for milling operations requiring a 2-inch diameter, 1.25-inch shank, single-end cobalt tool with TiN coating. Confirm spindle taper, holder bore, and horsepower rating before installation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before loading or changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the holder and torque set-screw or collet retention to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut, as runout on an 8-flute cutter accelerates uneven flute wear.
